Archdocs vs Lucidchart and Miro
Compare architecture objects and YAML in Archdocs with Lucidchart diagramming and Miro's collaborative boards.
If your team already shares diagrams in Lucidchart or Miro, moving has a cost. First check whether you need a shared architecture object with its own docs, or a place to draw and discuss a design.
Who each tool is for
Lucidchart covers technical diagrams and business processes, including BPMN and org charts, with real-time collaboration. Miro combines boards with documents, tables and slides; its paid plans include workshop tools such as voting and a timer.
Choose Archdocs when you want to document a service as an object, reference it in several diagrams and inspect which documents use it. We also support YAML authoring for C4 elements, ERDs, API endpoints and sequence diagrams. Whether that is worth adding another tool is a fair question, and the answer depends on how often your architecture diagrams go stale.
Feature comparison
| Workflow | Archdocs | Lucidchart | Miro |
|---|---|---|---|
| Drawing and discussion | Architecture diagrams and object documentation | Technical and business diagrams with real-time collaboration | Diagrams and comments on a shared board |
| Agent access | MCP reads and writes YAML documents | MCP creates, searches and edits diagrams | MCP creates editable Mermaid diagrams and documents |
| Reuse | Object references with a list of documents that use them | Data imports and data linking | Board templates and reusable blueprints |
These reuse features solve different problems. A template for a new board and a reference to an existing service aren't interchangeable. Test your own update workflow before deciding to migrate.
When to choose Lucidchart
Choose Lucidchart if you need Visio import and export, or if your team documents BPMN processes and org charts alongside software systems. Archdocs doesn't provide Visio import or export. Lucid's MCP server is available on Free, Individual, Team and Enterprise, subject to admin controls on team accounts.
When to choose Miro
Choose Miro if the same board needs to support a workshop and the resulting design. Its Starter plan includes voting and a timer, and its diagramming tools accept Mermaid and PlantUML through apps. We don't offer workshop facilitation tools in Archdocs. Miro also ships an MCP server, so agent access alone isn't a reason to switch.
Pricing checked on 2026-10-23
Lucidchart's Individual offer is $9 per month plus tax after a seven-day free trial. We couldn't confirm Team or Enterprise prices from the pricing page, so they aren't quoted here.
Miro's published USD pricing lists Free at $0 with three editable boards. Starter is $8 per member per month billed yearly, and Business is $20 on the same billing basis. Enterprise uses custom pricing from 30 members.
Archdocs Free is $0 for up to three people and ten documents. Team is $12 per seat per month, or $10 billed annually. Business is $45 per seat per month, or $35 billed annually, with a five-seat minimum. The pricing page has the full limits. If your company already pays for Lucidchart or Miro for other work, keeping it for that work may be the right call.
