Generate a diagram with AI

Generate a diagram when you have the components and connections in mind but haven't drawn them yet.

Generation requires the Team plan or above and ai:use. Applying the diagram also requires docs:write and objects:manage.

  1. Open a document, or create one. Select the wand icon labeled Generate diagram with AI in the canvas toolbar.
  2. Describe the components and how they connect. Name any existing objects you want reused.
  3. Select Generate, or press Ctrl+Enter on Windows or Cmd+Enter on Mac.

A prompt at Lanefold, a fictional freight company, could read:

Draw Dispatch Service sending completed bookings to Billing Service. Reuse the existing service objects and connect them with an arrow.

Review before applying

Review changes lists the counts of objects to create, reused objects and connectors. Each object has a reuse or new badge. The review is a list, not a preview drawn on the canvas.

  1. Check which objects will be reused and which will be created. For a new object, change its kind in the selector if needed.
  2. Select Accept and apply to create the new objects and add the object references and connectors to the document. Close the dialog without accepting to discard the generated diagram.

Applying appends elements to the saved diagram. Generation can't remove or relabel existing elements, even if your prompt asks it to.

Regenerate repeats the last submitted prompt. To change the request, edit the prompt and select Generate again. Each Generate or Regenerate costs AI credits, whether or not you apply the result. Accept and apply costs nothing extra.
