Comments and notifications
Leave a comment when a question belongs beside the part of the diagram it concerns. Mention a colleague when you need their answer, even if they aren't editing with you.
Commenting requires document access and docs:read. Resolving threads or deleting another person's comment requires docs:write. Mention suggestions also require members:read.
Comment on an element
- Select one canvas element, such as Dispatch Service.
- Select Comment on this element in the selection toolbar.
- Write your question. To mention someone, type
@and select an organization member from the suggestions. - Select Comment.
The comment is pinned to the element and follows it when it moves. Select its pin to open the thread. Write a response and select Reply to continue the discussion.
The Toggle comments button opens the Comments panel. If an element is deleted, its thread remains in the panel under Orphaned.
Resolve or edit a thread
Use Resolve thread when the discussion is finished. Resolved threads disappear from the default view; choose Show resolved to find them, then Unresolve thread to reopen one. Resolving a thread doesn't delete its comments.
To edit your own comment, select Edit comment, then Save. Delete comment removes a comment you wrote, or another person's comment if you have docs:write.
Read your inbox
Select Inbox in the sidebar. Opening a mention marks it read and follows its link to the document or decision. Mark all read clears the unread state without resolving any threads.
A mention sends notifications according to the recipient's preferences. Mentioning yourself doesn't send you a notification.
Choose notification delivery
- Open the organization name in the sidebar, then select Settings.
- Find Notifications.
- Change the checkboxes for the notifications you want. Each change saves when you make it.
| Setting | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Email notifications | Email when someone mentions you in a comment. |
| In-app notifications | In-app notifications for comment mentions. |
| Reference alert emails | Email when someone else renames or removes an object referenced in a document you created. |
| Reference alert in-app notifications | In-app notifications for those object renames or removals. |
| Slack direct message | Slack direct messages for mentions or reference alerts, as described beside each checkbox. |
Deleting a parent object sends no reference alerts for the child objects deleted with it.
Slack delivery requires a connected Slack workspace, a linked account and access to the document. Turning on the checkbox alone doesn't connect your account.
These mention and reference settings don't turn off review notifications. Review requests and decisions still send in-app notifications and email.
