Connect Slack
Send document updates to the Slack channels where your team already discusses changes. Channel routes send selected events to a channel; direct messages and search results follow each person's access.
Installing Slack and managing channel routes requires integrations:manage.
Install and add a channel route
- Open the organization name in the sidebar, then select Organization Settings > Slack.
- Select Add to Slack and complete Slack's authorization flow. Check the connected workspace name when you return.
- Under Add a channel route, choose a Channel and select the Events it should receive.
- Set Space to a particular space, such as Payments, or leave All spaces selected.
- Select Add route.
For example, route document updates and review requests for Payments to the channel where Billing Service changes are discussed. To change the events or space later, edit the route and select Save. Use its trash icon to remove it. Repeated document saves are combined so a channel doesn't receive a post for every save.
What appears in a channel
Channel posts and link previews include only documents that everyone in the ArchDocs organization can see. A person who can read a private document still can't make its contents appear in a channel through this integration.
Paste a document link into Slack to get a preview with its name and other document details. A channel route isn't required for link previews. The person posting the link must have a linked ArchDocs account; private documents receive no preview.
Search from Slack
Use /archdocs followed by search terms:
/archdocs Billing Service
Results are visible only to you and include documents your linked ArchDocs account can read.
ArchDocs links your Slack account by email address, and Slack must have confirmed that address. If Slack says your account isn't linked, sign in to ArchDocs with your Slack email address and try again. You must be a member of the connected ArchDocs organization.
Turn direct messages on or off
Direct messages start once your account is linked, so run /archdocs once first.
- Open the organization name in the sidebar and select Settings.
- Under Notifications, find the two Slack direct message options: one for comment mentions, one for changes to or removal of referenced objects.
- Turn each one on or off.
Direct messages use your own document access. They can include a private document you can read, even though that document won't appear in channel posts or previews. These preferences control your messages, not the organization's channel routes.
To disconnect the workspace, open the organization name in the sidebar, then select Organization Settings > Slack. Select Disconnect.
