Run an interview

During a live interview, keep the candidate's drawing beside the prompts and your notes. If Lanefold, a fictional freight company, uses a Dispatch Service exercise, the panel can introduce a new failure constraint without exposing its guidance to the candidate.

Running requires interviews:run and an interviewer seat on that interview's panel. Opening the interview requires interviews:read.

Open and start the session

  1. Open Interviews and select Enter on the scheduled session. From its setup page, you can also select Open cockpit.
  2. Check the candidate presence indicator and, if configured, select Meeting to open the call.
  3. Select Start interview when you're ready.

The cockpit needs a viewport at least 768px wide. Its header shows Session and Stage time remaining. The canvas is read-only before the interview starts and after it ends.

Practice sessions have a Practice badge. The selected teammate must sign in to use the candidate link; a forwarded practice link won't admit another candidate.

Reveal the prompts

In Prompts, the current stage appears with its candidate prompt and panel guidance under Interviewer only. The candidate receives only revealed prompts.

Select Reveal next to show the next stage. When the next stage uses automatic progression, select Complete stage and advance instead. Stages are revealed in order. Timed stages are revealed by the server once their configured session minute is due.

Candidates can select Done with this stage in live and async sessions. Completing a stage reveals the next stage if it uses Auto sequential progression. Manual stages still wait for the interviewer, and timed stages wait for their configured reveal time unless the interviewer reveals them sooner.

A stage's seed drawing is added to the existing canvas on reveal. The candidate's earlier drawing stays in place.

The kit's Suggested probes are follow-up questions for the panel. Clicking one records that you asked it as a note. It doesn't send the question to the candidate.

Record evidence and ratings

  1. Open Notes and write what you observed.
  2. Choose Private or Panel under Note visibility. Private notes are visible to their author; panel notes are shared with the panel.
  3. Optionally select Note competency to associate the evidence with the rubric.
  4. Select Add note, or press Ctrl+Enter.

You can Edit or Delete your own notes while note editing is open. You can't change another person's notes.

In Rubric, choose a rating for a competency. Hover over a rating to read its anchor. Ratings save to your scorecard; you submit the scorecard after the interview ends.

While the interview is in progress, the panel sees the candidate's pointer and each other's, so you can follow the candidate's thinking without a screen share. The candidate sees an interviewer's pointer labeled with their name and role, so you can point at the part of the diagram you mean.

Turn off Show my cursor to the candidate to move around without the candidate seeing you. The rest of the panel still sees it. The toggle is on by default for interviewers and off for shadows. Observers' pointers are never shown to anyone.

Use Timeline to review recorded session events. An observer on the panel has a read-only canvas and can't submit ratings. A shadow with interviews:run can record notes and ratings but can't start, reveal prompts or end the interview.

Send a hint or request AI follow-ups

Select Send hint, enter the hint and select Send hint in the dialog. The candidate and panel receive it, and it stays on the timeline. For the Dispatch Service exercise, a hint might ask the candidate to trace one retried delivery event.

For AI suggestions, select Suggest follow-ups in Prompts. It needs Team or above and ai:use, with Live interviewer assist turned on in organization settings, and consumes AI credits. Review the suggested probes and Coverage gaps before using them. Clicking a suggested probe records it as a note; AI output isn't shown to the candidate, and AI never assigns a rating or recommendation.

End the session

Select End interview, then confirm End interview. The drawing session ends and moves to feedback collection. Select Open debrief on the setup page to submit your scorecard and review the replay.
